food
POSTED AT 05:21 PM

I've been having terrible experiences with food lately, don't ask me why.

A note of advice to all of you, don't bother with US Pizza in Island Plaza anymore. Not only does the service really suck, the food standard's gone down as well. *sigh* And to think I was once a firm promoter of US Pizza. See, the air-con's not working on the whole third floor of Island Plaza, so it was terribly hot. And then the place was severly understaffed - one Malay guy doing the pizzas, and other one was being general waiter. See this, other fella is not very bright. We ordered one pitcher of 7up and he brought one glass. Our garlic twist never made an appearance. Yeah, and either my memory's gone wrong, or the lovely tomato-base that I used to love about US Pizza has been cut down. The bread / crust's not as good either.

Another place to avoid is McD's at One Stop. The chicken there is so darned small! Ish. You know they usually give you a drumstick / wing with a thigh / breast? They gave me this really tiny piece of i-dunno-what meat, and a extra-small drumstick. I mean, I can get a bigger piece of drumstick for rm2 at any economic rice stall. Sheesh.

But anyway, bought 2 Body Glove shirts for RM30 at the warehouse sale in Island Plaza and a Fila shirt for RM25. I'm so impressed at myself. Hahaha.... can you tell I haven't been buying clothes for a while?

I have the longest paper cut in history - my history anyway. It's about half an inch.

On my right middle finger. That'll be a bit hard to explain in weird situations. Haha

whoops, would you look at that date!
POSTED AT 08:21 PM

Heh.

Anyway, I've been trying to convince my dad to exchange his new nokia 6610 with my 2100 because it has that message-to-list function that he wants. It still isn't working. Oh well.

I've been counting down. I have 2 days of work left. Whoo hoo!! La la la la la

Yes, and I nearly forgot. You know that whole banana thing that's been banging around in youth2 and they say shame on us for not knowing our "mother tongue"? It doesn't make sense. See, mother tongue is defined as your "native language" or a parent language; that is, "the language learned by children and passed from one generation to the next." (I searched this on www.answers.com)

And this is the write up from Wikipedia:

First language (native language, mother tongue, vernacular) is the language a person learns first. Correspondingly, the person is called a native speaker of the language. Usually a child learns the basics of their first language from their family.

Good skills in native language are essential for further learning, as native language is thought to be a base of thinking. Incomplete first language skills often make learning other languages difficult. Native language has therefore a central role in education.

The term "mother tongue" could be misleading. In some paternal societies, mothers are from different places and speak different dialects or languages. Yet their children usually only speak their local language. Only a few will learn to speak his/her mother's language like a native. Actually, mother in this context probably originated from the definition of mother as source, or origin.

One can have two (or more) native languages, thus being a native bilingual. The order in which these languages are learnt is not necessarily the order of proficiency. For instance, a French-speaking couple might have a daughter who learned French first, then English; but if she grew up in the United States, she is likely to become more proficient in English.

I conclude, being a Chinese does not necessarily make Chinese or any dialect my so-called "mother tongue" as everyone seems to imply. True, I may be "shaming" my ancestors by not knowing the language of my race (ancestral tongue??), but I grew up speaking English, and that, by default (and definition) is my mother tongue.

Bah, who cares? (anna cares. Hahaha...)

lasts
POSTED AT 06:42 PM

It has been an interesting week.

Coincidental meetings

Met uncle Lye Hin three days in a row during lunch time - Tues to Thurs. Met uncle Andy today outside Citibank at about 2.45pm because we went down to put coins in one of the manager's parking meter.

Lunch

My senior came back from study leave to treat me for lunch again! Aww... I feel so touched. *sniff* Hehe

Stupid admin ate my money

So, you assume on your last day that you'll get your last pay? Evidently not. Returned the name tag and toilet key, then went to K, the one who pays out the money. She was like *blink* "Today last day ah? You should ask O". So go back, (hmm... still not sure what she does exactly... some admin thingy?) and the conversation goes something vaguely like this:

O: you have to come back at the end of the month to get it

Me: haa... I'm leaving for KL next week...

O: ask your parents to come and take lor

Me: Oh. Okay.

*sends message to dad, dad says no time*

Me: Uh, my dad says he can't make it

O: come later than that also okay. We'll keep for you

Me: Oh. Cannot be done by next week before I leave?

O: Too much paper work lah....

Me: Oh. Okay.

So I call dad on the office phone... and later transfers the call to L, a partner (I think). Haha. So I'll be having a partner taking my measly salary for me. Hahahahahaha...

Of last days

Anyway, while I'm still on the subject of last days, it's like the last day of school, only better. You leave all responsibilities (muahaha), and you actually gain back a whole full day of time. In school, you only gain back 1/2 a day at most, but then again, you already had 1/2 a day free anyway. Uh... ahha... and my manager gave me chocolates!! Hahahaha... Sooo nice.

Tee hee...

This influx of free time probably means more updates... maybe even multiple ones over the next week. And Willy. Willy will come soon. Hopefully. Keep your fingers crossed.

Feeling: lalalalalala

still on lasts
POSTED AT 10:36 AM

I forgot something else that happened yesterday. I always park at this RM3 parking lot down the road from the office that's run by this old indian woman. See, so she was saying on Thursday something about I don't pay on Friday, but pay both days on Monday, so I just told her that my training's finishing and I won't be back on Monday. Have to spend a little time explaining to her because my BM's a little rusty, and she's really old so I can't really catch all her words.

Anyways, so on Friday, she tells me I don't have to pay since it's my last day. Talk about favour? Haha... so I gave her grandkids the half pack of sweets that I've been carrying in my bag.

James (no, not JamesT)

Yes, and I attended my first and my last (for now) young-adults-cell-group-bible-study thing. And we're studying the book of James! Come to think of it, 1800's studying the book of James too! Haha... Which reminds me that my Jeremiah thing's been kind of dead for a long while now.

So, on to the re-education of anna...

I need some mental whacks now and then. Wanna help out? Hehe.

Oh yes, and I'm leaving for KL Friday morning.

Who wants OM Juice on Friday night?

We had fun at Fish & Co and Coffee Bean just talking, laughing and hanging out. Ah.

And Joshua called! So I had a short chat with him. Hehe. He said I wasn't updating enough. So... here's another short.

Gotta go sleep. More later.

of things to do
POSTED AT 04:58 PM

I've been having a terrible time trying to translate semi-good English into good English. I don't think it's actually working, but I couldn't care less anymore. Oh well, at least it looks better than it used to.

So I wasted all of today doing that, packing my clothes, KoLing and sweating. Yesterday I went to Tesco, trimmed my hair, discovered I don't really like Korean food (but I love the peach tea) bought a birthday present and KoLed. Yeah, and wrote that long thingy on 24.

I still have a lot of things to pack, a library book to finish, other books to decide whether I'm going to attempt finishing them now or lug them all the way to KL again, more "translations" to do and a lot of time to wonder if I've forgotten anything.

I got the cutest call on Sunday. Some kid called my handphone using the church office phone. We think he must've pressed the redial button because his dad just called me from there. The phone line was scratchy, so we couldn't actually decipher what exactly the kid was saying, but it was something like this:

Me: Hello?

Kid: Hello...

Me: Hello...

Kid: Hello...

Me: What are you calling for?

Kid: I'm calling for my daddy

Me: Where's your daddy?

Kid: In the library (well... it sounded like that)

Me: Uhh.... *pass the phone to my mum*

Mum: What's your daddy doing?

Kid: Playing with the computer

Mum: What's your daddy's name?

Kid: My daddy's name is daddy!

Mum: What's your name?

Kid: Yaya... (we're still not sure, but we guess this was the garbled version of Elijah)

Mum: How old are you?

Kid: some unintelligible thing

Mum: Ok.. bye bye...

Kids. Cute. Heh.

Oh, yeah. About those thingies in the tag...

On Sunday, (I sang at North, yeah!) Uncle Thean Kee said "today we're going to pray for an item. We're going to pray for Anna who's going back to KL this week." *I'm NOT an item!!!*

Haha... and Uncle Keat Cheong added in this thingy to the end of his prayer that God will "keep (my) future spouse in His plans." I dunno, I found it funny. Serious, but also funny. Haha.

Back in KL.

Managed to get internet adaptor going, but for some reason, Yahoo messenger won't log in, and MSN tells me I have to update my beta version to version 7.0 before it will work, but the site won't let me download the thing.

Oh well. My room's still a mess and half in boxes and bags. Gotta run.

Forgot to add, new address:

POSTED AT 08:19 AM

Got Restored by Jeremy Camp yesterday!! Whoo hoo!

Also got World Through Your Eyes by Reuben Morgan and I'm going to his concert on 6 June. *does little dances* Hahahahahahahahaha

Roomie's a kid named Christina, whose dad's a Chinese and mum's a Bidayuh (coolness) and who attends SIB Seremban. How chunted's that?

Ooks. Be back later.

uh..
POSTED AT 05:45 PM

*sheepish grin*

I locked myself out of the room. Roomie's off back to Seremban and I went to the toilet to shower. Closed the door and went "oops, no key." But it was already locked. *sigh*

So quick shower, then down to the hostel office. Almost reached it when one of the guards came out. He looked at me, I smiled, and he said, "mesti lupa kunci." So I got the spare key to open the door.

Society day was pretty good. Got rather a lot of interested people. Yay! The stack of non-Christians (and those we forgot to ask if they were Christians or not) is about as thick as half the Christians. Feels pretty good.

several things
POSTED AT 11:16 PM

Washed clothes today and discovered a new feature of the hostel - dryer! So I used a dryer for the very very first time! Whee...

Went over to SAD to do applics for CF with Jia Pei and after that followed her to Agape House. Went with her and Rowen to lunch at OM. Tomyam and Mango juice... yum! After that we took a trip to KLCC to buy tix for Star Wars ep3 for tomorrow. There'll be 8 of us going tomorrow (can't say who from the top of my head) but, YAY!! I'm going to see Star Wars! It won't go the way of previous "want to see shows" like Sepet, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Phantom of the Opera and Shrek 2. (I never got to see those... yet)

And I've been trying unsuccessfully to log into the maybank2u thing. Only to find out that it deactivates after 3 months of inactivity. Duh. I haven't used it since I went back last sem. Hahaha... thank you, Deborah Kan for that useful info.

Ooks.. off to make some maggi mee... kinda hungry now. More after my snack.

POSTED AT 11:56 PM

Got this off Wai Nyan's blog. i need that...

I've made my decision, but somehow, I'm still looking for second and third confirmations. And everytime I keep looking and fishing for that confirmation, I get all unsettled again. I made the decision with an "if" but I think I've decided even if the "if" never materialises. I can't keep waiting for that "if". It's... I can't describe it.

It's one of those things that you want to happen, but the very feeling of wanting it makes you feel guilty. Like as if you're coveting something. Or as if, by thinking such a thing, you're proud and making yourself to be more than you really are. And even while wanting it, you don't want it, because of what's happened before. And you wonder if wanting it is just another escape from something that you don't really like to do.

But I've made my decision, I think. And I don't know if announcing it will make it any better or any worse, or any more decisive. I've already declared both ways. I can always go back again. But I think I've decided, and I think it's a final decision.

I am going to Metro Tabernacle.

There. Said it. I know it's not a major issue, but in some ways, my decision makes me feel a little guilty. Both ways.

*tears hair out*

May 28th, 2005

I watched...
POSTED AT 09:07 PM

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Anna's reactions:

1) ooooohhhh

2) aaaaahhhh

3) ouch! ow... ow...

4) awww... poor kids!!

There. Everything summed up. I found Artoo very canggih... chunted... hahahahahaha... and babies Luke and Leia were SO cute! Haha.. (I'm not normally a baby-cuteness-fan, but oh well)

And the "Taufu" was there too. (Okay, I know that's not its real name...) Yesterday's scene: Rowen's car. Anna picks up little Burger King wookiee toy and goes "ooh... Chewbacca." Rowen replies saying, "No lah, it's Tarfful" (goes on with other explanation on who that's supposed to be). Anna goes, "hah? Taufu?" Today's scene: Yoda goes "good bye, Tarfful. Good bye, Chewbacca" (or something along those lines) and Anna goes *snigger* "Taufu." Anyway, now Rowen says it's actually Chewbacca. Sheesh.

Anyway, after the movie and lunch, we went off to Kino where I found SW:RotS concept art! Nice...

Today's attendees (alphabetically): Anna, Belinda, Bernard, Jacob, Jia Pei, Jia Wern, Rowen, Solomon, Yu Huat.

*note: some pix from planning camp are up! Go check it out in the gallery!
