mini update POSTED AT 09:15 PM Pizza Hut doesn't have Tabasco Sauce anymore. It's a sad day for pizzadom. And all this darned people are just so chauvanistic. Sigh. BUT ANYWAY... Look... autographs... *drool* [Hm. I have 2 autographed Gambus CDs. The only other autographed CD I have is Altered Frequency.] Review? I liked the album. I especially liked track 6, "Caravan". Thealbum is light and rather in keeping with the style of Farid Ali's first album, Turning Point, that I liked so much. It has to be. Almost half the songs were from the first album (Gift of Life, Ayah dan Ibu, Peace & Friendship, Deep Within Me). I wouldn't be surprised if some Roger Wang fan were to say that tracks from Wang's previous album also made the list. [Surprise for the day: when checking back to Turning Point's discography, I discovered that the "Close To You" track wasn't on it. I thought it was. But the song is so familiar that I must have heard him perform it in Alexis then.] Well, to think about it, spending RM35 for a 11-track CD, of which you already have 4 of the songs (never mind that the arrangement may be slightly different) is kind of... idiotic. Should have checked out the discography first. (thinks *look, choose, buy!*) But who thinks of such things when you're lining up to get the CD as fast as possible, hoping it won't run out, so that you can join the other line to get autographs? More on the Penang Island Jazz Festival tomorrow! Feeling: "oh well" 2 talked!

the Penang Island Jazz Festival POSTED AT 10:06 PM Hm. Let's do this chronogically. I suppose. Sunday evening started off with the winners of the James Boyle competition thing, which was a group from USM. I heard that Ocean of Fire got 2nd place. Awws, poor Kelvin. heh.
USM Group
We met up with Eugene from alldatjazz.com, and he was trying to avoid the camera whilst busy talking to Joshua Tan. Next was James Boyle and the Ragged Tigers (or something like that. Too lazy to check lah. hehe - another reason why I'm not a journalist)
They had chunted drummer (I think he got more crowd response and appreciation than Lewis Pragasam!!!) and siao bassist.
David does say it's normal though. I haven't been going to enough concerts to tell. Then it was Farid Ali & Roger Wang.
With Badar on percussions and Andy Peterson on bass. We had John "Kaizan" Neptune after that.
He introduced many interesting Japanese instruments. And his backup band was (I suppose) made up of the most high-profile jazz musicians in Malaysia.
Let's see, he had Andy Peterson and Steve Thornton, and Lewis Pragasam, and the Kams. (Well, the Kams are upcoming, I suppose. Haha.)
Gwene-something and Arthur Kam... Next up was the Idiang Rashidi Quartet (though there were 5 of them, with Tompi! *Yay*
He was a good, if somewhat weird singer.
And he used a very weird mike. Last up was Denise Mininfield. We left after her second song, firstly because it was getting too "concerty" for me, and secondly because I didn't like her style, and thirdly because it was getting late. All in all, not a bad bargain at RM40 per night. Mont Kiara was better though. Oh well!!

this is up... POSTED AT 12:11 AM because I miss you guys already. And I wish it was that easy to put big things up. Of high standards too. But like you said, it's your seventh musical drama. And it will take time. To build from scratch. I still have 2004's A Christmas Tale sticker on my car. Now, that was impressive.
I have such a long way to go. And I'm not even very sure that it's going to be my path to walk. But I have been anointed to this task, and I will hold on to that anointing. |

more words... POSTED AT 11:41 PM in thoughts There are times when you have many things to say, but nothing seems to fit. There are times when you want to say something, but you have no idea what to say. Sometimes silence is the best answer you can give someone. Sometimes silence speaks louder than words. Have you given the gift of silence to someone today? --- Thought for the day: [ to be FACELESS in WORSHIP ] ideas? |

errors... POSTED AT 02:10 PM David started it with "Chickens' Brand of Essence." We continued it with "Brand's Chicken of Essence." And my mum corrected it with "Brand's Essence of Chicken." What a comedy! The Filipino carollers came to my house on Thursday night.
They were a happy bunch. =) One Joyland down, another to go. Relief is in sight. Haha. |

Just keep swimmin' POSTED AT 09:10 PM Well, another trait of my oh-so-wonderful firm is they throw you in the water and expect you to swim. Okay, so I have to keep reminding myself that when they hired me they obviously thought I had enough substance to be worth it, and since they sent me out alone they obviously thought that I was ready to handle it, but... but... OH WELL. I shall tell myself to be happy that I'm going in the right direction. Even though I feel unsure and mussed up. confidenceconfidenceconfidence. Where? The promotions list came out today. A trainee asked if I was on the list. I said obviously not, I've only been there for 4 months. Well, reaching 5. Argh. It seems so long. And yet so short. Oh dear. I wonder if I can make that list by June? Hehe. Sigh I'm so tired. And another stock take tomorrow. Will have to be up by 6am!! >.< Reading: america - stephen coonts Listening to: katy ray |
