of books and book sales
POSTED AT 10:30 PM

I'm beginning to be less impulsive and more discretionary in shopping at book sales. The Big Bookshop is having a sale at Gurney Plaza.

Among others, I saw:

My Name is Asher Lev Chaim Potok

Les Miserables Victor Hugo

Haroun and the Sea of Stories Salman Rushdie

several Brian Jacques

James Bond series Ian Fleming

at RM15 each.

I nearly bought all. Except I didn't have enough cash with me. And I figured, I don't have the time to read them all. And I might regret buying them.

So I settled on the Rushdie.

I have a feeling I'm going to regret not buying the Potok though.

Well, they'll be there until the 8th of June. Maybe I'll go again and see if it's still there.

I love books. Haha

Oh, and they have Animorphs at RM2.90.

khattam-shud
POSTED AT 05:26 PM in thoughts

i don't understand
why
but I'm being judgemental
what's so nice
about looking that way
i'msorry
talking that way
it's cheap
nice? no!
but to them
istoleyourgirl
they advertise it
in mere words
mere. written. words
but do they really mean it?
it doesn't really show
but maybe i'll never know
maybe i'm just too old
whatdoyoumean
i don't know them
well enough
to judge
so
nothing.

i don't understand it
and i don't think i ever will
maybe because i do not know
enough, therefore:
Khattam-shud.
over and done with.
Shut up, and
THE END.

---

You're not meant to understand it. I don't mind if you don't. But if you do, why, thank you.

I wonder what you really understood.

---

In the end, all that really matters is the state of your heart. If you can, in full confidence, say that your life is right with God - no matter what other people may think or say or do - then you are right with God. Because your spiritual life is between you and God, not between you and man. And if you have peace in your heart to live how you do, then go ahead, knowing that God is your judge, and not man.

---

I wish though, it could always be that simple. Because people watch. And people talk. And sometimes, all that you do is given a new meaning, because of what you have said. Or have not said. Or did not mean to say.

I'm sorry.

Feeling: sticky.

On the past week...
POSTED AT 10:10 AM

The past week has been... good.

Peak has sort of stopped, for me at least. So I've been shaking legs in office and going home about on time. For once. Whee.

Other than that, I watched Shrek 3. And Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Again. Also! I bought Parachute Band's Always and Forever CD for only RM9.90. But I don't really like it. So if anyone is looking for the CD, you can get it off me at cost.

On the combined musical script, I have Act 1 virtually there except for the opening song, but no Act 2. And it's already June. Arrggghhhh.

On the Script Frenzy screenplay, I am at 2,000 odd words. And it's already day 9! Technically... I should at least be at 6k to meet the target. So........ WHERE ARE MY 4K WORDS??? Haha.

On my life... I still need one. Because I'm working today. (Yay, I have OT, but no yay, I can't work on my script.)

Now, I'm hungry.

Malaysian music
POSTED AT 04:49 PM

I am a supporter of the Malaysian music industry.

I bought this:

crimson

RM9.90 with 7 tracks, two of which are reprises. Not bad.

Music wise, they rock. Vocals are so-so. I actually preferred the "garage band version" to the recorded one. Haha. He doesn't strain as much.

AND I finally remembered to send that e-mail for the [??] demo. (I've never actually heard them, but since Reuben asked so nicely...)

I actually also want to buy Juwita's new CD. But it's expensive. AND there's a new Chris Tomlin. AND there's a new Steven Curtis Chapman that I've wanted to get for a while now. Argh. CDCDCDCDCDCDCDCDCD.

I love CDs.

on words...
POSTED AT 11:09 PM

I'm up to 4,500 words, and thinking I might... or might not... reach the deadline due to lack of storyline (as usual) and lack of time.

But I'll press on!

Also, do join the "I *heart* Malaysia" challenge at Life's Legalities!

You'll see my 50 reasons some time this month (hopefully).

And join me at Ronggeng Merdeka this Saturday!

AND, RM10,000 is being offered for a 10-minute Malaysian-flavoured play. Check it out here.

I'm SO definitely in! Hehe

Oh wow. This sounds so much like an advert post. Haha.

this title is getting boring
POSTED AT 12:35 AM

Are you living your life in cruise control?

I think I am.

So many things I want to do. So many things I know I'm supposed to do. So many things I need to do.

And yet...

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow, you're only a day away.

It's all words in my head.

There are too many words in my head.

What I really really really really hate is that every time I really really really want to just let go and enjoy myself, all these stupid voices will start up in my brain.

How do you make the words disappear?

There are too many words in my head. They don't mean anything anymore.

And yet, they mean too much.

shutupshutupshutup.

---

"Old Faithful" was raped and mutilated. Sometime last night. Apparently.

They broke the window and stole the CD player. And cut all the wires.

Stupid idiots.

*A moment of silence for the Kancil*

---

The question again is... dance classes? Or vocal lessons?

HMMMMMMMMMMM.

---

5,100 words. I'm not making it. Unless I have inspiration and time this weekend.

What?!
POSTED AT 11:25 PM

This is where I go:

"aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh...... No!!!! No!!!! How can?!?! Nooooo!!! Whyyyy??????????"

They ended NCIS with Special Agent Gibbs - the grouchy, head-hitting boss - retiring. *sniff* Sighs. But I love Gibbs... he's funny! Gah, sads.

Oh well. Criminal Minds starts next week! Whee!

(Can you tell yet that I don't get much TV?)

Is it accolades you're looking for?
They won't come when you look

I *heart* Malaysia
POSTED AT 09:46 PM

So I'm supposed to think of 50 reasons. Let's break this down to bite-size pieces okay? I think I'll attempt 10 at a time. Let's see...

 1) Rain. I love rain. It's been raining. It's so nice and cool now.

 2) Not too much rain. There's always enough sunshine to go around and brighten up my day!

 3) Perodua. I loved my Kancil and I love my MyVi now. It's affordable, and nice.

 4) Cheap food. Do you know how convenient it is to be able to have a meal for less than RM5? My sister has to cook because eating out is so expensive in Australia. Muahahahahaha.

 5) While we're on food, MGS hokkien mee! The best in Penang! Whee. We're making a date this Saturday. Anyone else game? :D

 6) Big old trees. They provide nice shade. Though they do litter the cars.

 7) My quiet neighbourhood. Things are starting to get busy, what with the bigger intake at TARC, but it's still quiet. And relatively peaceful. Comparatively.

 8) Cheap petrol. Yup.

 9) Cheap jeans. Don't need to go for branded stuff. Just drop by your local pasar malam or pasar pagi or whatever shop and get lots and lots of cheap jeans!

 10) Pirated CDs. I'm sorry. This isn't supposed to be "good". But... but... yeah.

I *heart* Malaysia (part II)
POSTED AT 11:42 PM

11) Food courts / hawker centres. No matter what you want to eat, be it Chinese, Indian, Malay, Western, you can just stop at any hawker centre, and everyone can eat together. Whee. Unity. Haha.

12) Gurney Drive. It's still pretty, at high tide. I drive by every morning. And watch old aunties and uncles take their early morning walk... and do their tai-chi stuff.

13) Streamyx. Yeah, I know everyone says it sucks... but it's internet. And it's broadband and much faster than dial-up.

14) Mega sales.

15) book warehouse sales! I miss going to the times and mph warehouse sales in kl!! arrghh.. I wish they'd have some in penang.

16) free street theatre. Ronggeng Merdeka was cool. Hoping it will be come more common.

17) Penang Bridge! If not, we'd still be stuck using the old, slow ferries.

18) tax exemption on books. Sometimes, the only reason I can use to persuade my mom that it's alright to buy more books is that they can use the receipts to claim more tax exemptions. It's heaven for book kakis. Hehe.

19) Manglish. Sometimes it's just more efficient.

20) CFs, and the fact that we have them in secondary schools as well as in Unis / colleges. There have been some bonds forged in CFs that have really lasted the test of time. And they bring together Christians from all sorts of denominations who would never meet otherwise.

 ---

Phew.. this is getting harder than I though. I still have 30 more to go. Hahaha.

Argh.

June 25th, 2007

I *heart* Malaysia (part III)
POSTED AT 11:46 PM

I missed half of my CSI today. Wanna know why? Hahahahahahaha... 'Cause I was chatting with Az Samad on Y!M. Yeah, so that was cool.

Now, on to my next 10 reasons. (This is getting really hard...)

21. Malaysian time. Again, another *not so good* reason, but one of the things that comforts me about Malaysia is that I can be a little late and not sweat it too much. There's usually someone else later than me.

22. Comfort. It's my home. I'm comfortable here.

23. My friends. People like Lex who's laughing at my totally stupid script, Wai Nyan, who's dragging me through torture to produce this (haha), Jasmine who provides a listening ear... yeah. Friends. You know who you are.

24. TARC. Free education. Good. Yay. Haha. (Not lucid here)

25. Racial harmony. The ability to have friends of different races, and not be thought weird to have them.

[can i just end here? I'm sleepy, and I can't think. So I have another 25 to go]

June 26th, 2007

I *heart* Malaysia (part III and a half)
POSTED AT 11:20 PM

26. Altered Frequency! Malaysia has Altered Frequency! Haha. *buatan Malaysia*

27. interesting TV adverts. I don't know about ads in other countries... but some of the Malaysian ads just never fail to crack me up. They're just so... lame. And then there are the heart-warming ones too - especially near the festivals

28. Festivals. Who doesn't appreciate DeepaRaya and KongsiRaya and all the combined festivals?

29. street processions. I think one of my earliest memories of Christmas in Sibu was having a street procession and spraying fake "snow" stuff on the windows of the van for decor. It never really came off.

30. Floods. I don't know. I guess floods can be frustrating. But I found it fascinating... as a kid... in Sibu... watching the water level slowly creep up, floating paper boats and wondering... will it come into the house? Hehe. Childish memories. I wouldn't want a flood now though. Oh yes, and back in '95 - '97, heavy rains meant the school would flood.. which meant... HOLIDAY! (After they fixed the drains, it didn't flood anymore)

---

I'm getting there. Slowly. Okay?

June 29th, 2007

I *heart* Malaysia (part IV)
POSTED AT 12:27 AM

31. Malaysian songs are really... interesting, you know? One song that just makes me smile (and laugh and roll my eyes) is the one called *Dua kali Lima* Seriously. And they go quack quack... hehe. Oh, and I LOVE "Itu Kamu".

32. Sepet. I think Yasmin Ahmad's show is really relevant and culturally revealing. I have still not gotten round to watching the other 2. But I will.

33. Being able to buy old Ori VCDs / CDs at RM9.90.

34. We have really smart kids. I was flipping through one of those brochures for an Aussie Uni, and they had a list of prize winners. So many Malaysians. Hahah. =)

35. Penang is really small socially. Chances are, the 6 degrees thing doesn't work in Penang. It'll probably be like... 3 degrees or something.

36. Penang is also really small geographically. Everything is near (yay) only we don't realise it until we've been to other *bigger* and *farther-ish* places.

37. The whole of Malaysia uses the same time zone. No freakish time differences between states.

38. AND we don't have daylight savings time.

39. We're not like... really that cityfied (cold, impersonal, greedy, selfish, mine mine mine!)

40. On the other hand, we're not that kampungfied (lost, backward, un-savvy).

---

Oh look. Only 10 more to go.

---

I'll blog when I can think. If I can think. My brains died a while back.

w00t!
POSTED AT 11:28 PM

This is going to be really quick.

The next install of I *heart* Malaysia will be on hold until at least Sunday! I have EXACTLY 3,819 words to go to meet my goal for Script Frenzy which ends tomorrow night!

I'm thinking VERY VERY hard now!

In other news...

I MADE THE PROMOTIONS LIST.

So, w00t w00t! And I'll be back after tomorrow night.
