*hello*
POSTED AT 12:38 AM

Greetings from the extremely hot island of Langkawi! (Though we're in the air-con rooms so much we don't feel the heat.

Brief updates as follows:

  • Idiot firefly was delayed sending us in, so the 12.15pm flight became something like at 1.30pm flight. Idiots.
  • Bayview is a nice place to stay! Free wi-fi downstairs at the coffee house.
  • The accounts people are really nice. We figure it's because we're the only "outside" people we talk to every year. Or they're bored. Or they're just naturally very nice. (The FC likes to talk.)
  • Chocolates are good.
  • A can of Reese's peanut butter cup thingy costs... RM20.50!
  • I'm up to page 13 on my script! I love Celtx! (Well, 11, if you discount the title page and character page.
  • My batt is low, and I left my charger in the office because I didn't want to work too much.

I'll be back Saturday!

 mia

Just downloaded Mia Palencia's new album Finding My Way from popfolio. Get it here. It's SUPERB. Still listening, but my fave at the moment is SUPERMAN! Haha. And... she's only older than me by... 16 DAYS. *dreams on*

Mia... please come to Penang... please please... I'll organise your concert if you want, just like I'm planning for Altered Frequency and Josh. Haha. If THAT works out...

It's depleted me by about 6USD (approx RM21 at a 3.5 conversion rate) which leaves me a MASSIVE amount of USD1.50 in my paypal. I SO need to get more opps on payperpost (or rather, IZEA now), but unfortunately everything is either "unqualified" or "fully reserved". ARGH. NEED MONEH. So.... PLEASE CLICK and SIGN UP and review my post?

today.
POSTED AT 10:09 PM

Today I am happy with my job because we are finally going to get last year's bonus.

Today I am lazy again, so I'm not posting up the pics. They are on facebook though. Or photobucket, if you are so inclined.

Today I am inspirationless.

There is no "big thing" in my life.

How sad.

And an old church friend already has his first kid. I haven't even found a boyfriend.

I feel old.

Hope - a review
POSTED AT 10:07 PM

I went for the SGGS musical drama on Friday night, and I was pretty much pleasantly surprised. It was quite okay for a school play.

The story line was, well, pretty standard and a lot of the lines were cliched, but hey, we love cliches, don't we? It got the right laughs out of the audience at any rate. The drama started off a bit slow - maybe because the monologues were a little too long draggy. (Why does this feel like someone stole an idea?) However, it picked up with the opening song at the Zulkarnain's house. I think they were a little strong on the "race relations" bit, especially in the library - it felt as if they had so many things to say, and they had to fit every bit of it into that bit of a speech, rather then letting it play out in the drama itself. I liked the way they played with that garden bench though. Haha. There was nothing memorable about the ending, though. I mean... Mei forgets how to cross the road (suddenly? too depressed? suicidal?) There's this totally weird song duel between Zachary and Mei's father... and then... he sings a song and her ghost comes to meet him? (I see a lot of the baka's lame-brained ideas in this)

Rachel Yeoh, the female lead had pretty strong vocal skills, though she could improve in her control - she's stronger in the lower ranges, and weaker in the higher, rather like me. Oh, the curse of the habitual alto singer. I think she had enormous control to be able to carry on in the beginning with those irritating hecklers in the crowd, but could have tried pacing it up a bit.

Of the baka, I have nothing to say. It was a pretty good performance. Could have been better.

The Datuk was a little stilted in his speech and the Datin's voice really wasn't good enough to earn her that solo. Kudo's to the Nenek though. I loved her from the start. Pity she got so little stage time!

The supporting cast were superb! So much attention paid to detail, with the appropriate background action going on whilst the main cast are doing their talking head thing. The library scene was a perfect example. I also especially loved the "Stomp" scene in the beginning of the second act, though I don't think it actually had any relation to any other part of the drama.

Well, the main downfall of the whole thing was the miking. There were parts that were dodgy - couldn't hear what on earth the cast were saying, though that could also have been because they were mumbling - and it wasn't really mixed properly towards the singers' strengths, so you had parts where you had a stronger singer over powering the others, and lots of other noises in between.

Daniel Chan couldn't really pull off the "father" thing... a little stiff in his acting - but I suppose they only really wanted him for his singing ability, and that scene where the piano suddenly appears and he sings a song for his dead wife. Hm.

(I'll not talk about the song writing abilities of the group. Do. Not. Go. There.)

But well, I shouldn't be so nitpicky. It was, after all, a school play. But they managed to raise RM7k for MAKNA and RM15k for their school. Good job, girls!

I do however want to take time out to complain about STUPID IDIOT people who don't know how to SHUT UP. I mean, yeah, that's your friend on stage, but you don't have to scream her name and make such a big noise. Who do you think you are? You also don't have to scream and whistle when the actors are doing their thing. We're trying to listen to THEM not you. GRRRRR

Uneducated bozos.

And what was with that stupid pointer!??!

restless
POSTED AT 11:24 PM

I am obsessively-compulsively checking my e-mail.

Darn.

Help, I need a life.

---

I'm up to page 89 on my increasingly stupid and unbelievable script. YAY!

---

I've been part of your past. But will I be part of your future?

---

And maybe the thing God is saying in all this is to lift my eyes up to larger things than merely the confines of the church, because the church in its four walls is too small. The Church as a body is what needs attention.

But I will need so much more of Him. Because what I am is not enough.

and it's a yes!

Whad'ya know?

Maybe dreams come true, even ill-defined ones.

Fuzzy details?

  • Mia Palencia.
  • Penang.
  • June-ish.
  • Yours truly.

Kelvyn Yeang kept asking, but what's in it for you?

I dunno. It's just something I want to do. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe it's a labour of love. Maybe I just want bragging rights. Or, as I also said, I'm into doing impossible projects, like Star of Persia, and I'm thinking this is a stepping stone to more exciting things! Woohoo! (Why on earth am I an auditor?!?!)

I'm falling back on all those crazy experiences: fireBRANDS family nights, Star of Persia, TARC Penang Christmas night, Altered & Unabashed in TARC KL's Christmas night (not to forget that irritating so-called prom nights in TARC Pg), and the recent KDU event. And now... AM I OUT OF MY MIND?

But it's cool.

Time to start pulling in my network.

briefly
POSTED AT 11:59 AM

I went back to fictionpress, and discovered how much I love "Would You Just Listen?"

Read it.

I'm considering another Denise story. Some time in the future. Because I think Denise is cool, and needs more wordplay.

On other things, I think I'm being more provocative that I need to / should be / like. Gah.

Think about this one: I believe in the sanctity of the Church as a body, but not in the infallibility of the church as a unit.
